Ashley’s Story

Ashley and her husband Joel had never looked forward to anything as much as holding their baby girl. But complications from a high-risk pregnancy kept Ashley confined to a hospital bed, her hand resting on her belly as she dreamed of the weight of her newborn in her arms. The future stretched before them, full of beautiful possibilities and terrifying uncertainties.

Ashley had been the family’s primary financial provider, and her sudden inability to work left a serious gap in their stability. Joel was actively seeking employment, submitting applications and attending interviews, but nothing had come through yet.

They received vouchers from Community Clothes Closet and were connected to St. Joseph’s Food Pantry and energy assistance, helping stabilize their most basic needs. But rent remained out of reach. The threat of eviction—especially during a high-risk pregnancy—was a burden they couldn’t carry, yet it was very real.
